Our Foundation
Since 1953Located in the picturesque hills of Craignano, Mashobra—just 15 kilometers from Shimla—SAMETI stands as Himachal Pradesh's premier agricultural training and extension institute. Born from the strengthening of the Agriculture Extension Training Center, we are committed to revolutionizing agricultural practices through innovative training, sustainable farming techniques, and cutting-edge technology transfer.
Our Evolution
In 1991, recognizing the evolving needs of agriculture, we transformed into the Agriculture Extension Training Centre, expanding our mandate to provide comprehensive long-duration training programs for Agriculture Extension Workers across the region.
A pivotal moment came on January 27, 2000, when we evolved into the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI). Registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 XXI and supported by the World Bank-aided National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP)—now known as the National Mission on Agriculture Extension and Technology (NAMET)—we embarked on a new era of excellence.

Today, SAMETI delivers comprehensive training programs that address critical agricultural challenges: Participatory Extension Management, Advanced Project Management, Sustainable Watershed Management, Certified Organic Farming, Women's Empowerment in Agriculture, Strategic Human Resource Management, Quality Assurance Systems, Subhash Palekar Natural Farming (SPNF), Digital Marketing Strategies, and cutting-edge Information Technology applications in agriculture.

We serve as the knowledge hub for senior and middle-level officers from Agriculture and allied departments, conducting specialized induction courses and targeted capacity-building programs that enhance professional competencies and drive innovation in agricultural practices.

As a center of excellence, we organize high-impact workshops on emerging agricultural issues and provide expert consultancy for developing Strategic Research & Extension Plans. Our state-of-the-art infrastructure includes modern teaching facilities, advanced audio-visual equipment, and comfortable residential accommodations that create an optimal learning environment.

SAMETI has earned national recognition as a premier agricultural training destination, regularly hosting delegations of officers and farmers from across India under various inter-state exchange programs including SSEPER schemes.
